Nizamabad, May 17 (Gatlanews): Collector Rajiv Gandhi Hanumanthu and Police Commissioner P. Sai Chaitanya have instructed the officials to continue strict vigil to prevent cattle smuggling. In honor of Bakrid celebrations, a district-level coordination committee meeting on animal welfare and cow slaughter ban was held under the chairmanship of the Collector on Saturday at the Integrated District Office Complex. In this meeting, the Collector and CP reviewed the prevention of cattle smuggling and the implementation of animal welfare rules with the officials of the relevant departments. Keeping in mind the Bakrid festival, he suggested that the officials of the relevant departments should perform their duties in coordination with each other so that no problems arise. He said that the laws intended for animal welfare should not be violated. He pointed out that there is a ban on slaughtering cows under the Cow Slaughter Prohibition Act 1977, and that there is a ban on slaughtering camels in Telangana. He directed that people should be made aware of these issues on a wide scale and strict measures should be taken to prevent the slaughter of cows and camels anywhere. He advised that cattle should be slaughtered in slaughter houses and not on roads. He said that before moving and slaughtering cattle, it is mandatory to obtain certification from a veterinary officer.

He directed the officials of the Animal Husbandry Department to take steps to ensure that sufficient number of veterinary doctors are available at all places in view of the Bakrid festival. The CP said that in addition to the inter-state check posts at Kandakurti, Salura, Pothangal, Khandgaon in the district, special inter-district check posts are being set up at Satapur, Yancha, Indalwai, Ummeda, Jannepalli, Mamidipalli and other places to prevent illegal cattle trafficking. He said that officials from the Revenue, Police and Transport departments should constantly monitor and supervise. He suggested that if cattle are transported against the rules, they should be seized immediately and legal action should be taken. He advised the officials to respond immediately to complaints regarding illegal cattle trafficking, go to the field level and act with restraint to prevent law and order problems from arising and take all necessary precautions. He said that steps should be taken to provide adequate shelter to the seized cattle and ensure that they have access to fodder and water. He said that he should ensure that the weekly cattle markets held in Satapur, Indalwai and other places are conducted in accordance with the rules and the Animal Welfare Act. He advised the officials of the municipal and panchayat raj departments to ensure that waste is not dumped anywhere and to take a planned approach to move the waste away from populated areas. He advised them to focus special attention on sensitive and problematic areas and to work to ensure that Bakrid celebrations are held in a peaceful atmosphere without any untoward incidents. Ravinder, Nizamabad, Bodhan, Armur ACP Raja Venkat Reddy, Srinivas, Venkateswar Reddy, Police, Revenue, Animal Husbandry, Panchayat, Municipal and other departments officials participated in this meeting.
