New Delhi, March 27 (Gatla News): Participating in the discussion on the Finance Bill in Parliament, Rajya Sabha member Mr. K.R. Suresh Reddy raised his voice regarding the prevailing conditions in the country, the challenges facing the farming community, and the issues concerning Gulf workers. He suggested that the government must exercise extreme caution during this period of international uncertainty.
@ Highlights of the Speech…
Kharif Season – Fertilizer Security: In light of the upcoming Kharif season, set to begin in the next three months, Mr. Suresh Reddy urged the government to ensure that farmers do not face any shortage of fertilizers. He warned that since we rely on foreign sources for 90% of the gas required for urea production, there is a risk that supplies could be disrupted due to tensions in the Gulf nations. He demanded that clear guidelines regarding fertilizer distribution be issued to the states to prevent a recurrence of the adverse situations—such as the *lathi-charge* (police baton charge)—that farmers in Telangana faced last year due to urea shortages. Organic Fertilizers – A ‘Mission Mode’ Project: He advocated for the promotion of alternative fertilizers. He appealed to the Finance Minister to scientifically process the 30 million tonnes of wet waste generated annually in urban areas and convert it into organic fertilizers, proposing that this initiative be undertaken as a revolutionary ‘Mission Mode’ project, modeled after the successful UPI system. He stated that this not only enhances soil fertility but also reduces environmental pollution.
*Legal Status of Election promises…
He proposed that election promises be given legal backing in order to instill accountability within the political sphere. Citing the Private Member Bill introduced by Mr. K.T. Rama Rao, the Working President of the BRS party in Telangana, he emphasized that such legislation is essential across the country to strengthen democracy.
* Issues Concerning Gulf Workers..
He urged the Central Government to pay special attention to the welfare of Indians employed in Gulf nations, particularly those hailing from Telangana. He appealed for measures to prevent delays in repatriating the mortal remains of those who pass away abroad, and requested the formulation of a special action plan to support workers returning home after losing their jobs.Mr. K.R. Suresh Reddy concluded his address by urging the government to align its economic policies with a focus on the rural economy and the welfare of farmers.
